Some old fan sites survive by accident.
This one survives because its owner has decided it is staying.
The homepage of In Space, No One Can Hear Starscream says it plainly: the site may not update very often anymore, but it is not abandoned. The Insecticomics archive is staying up as long as the owner controls the domain.
That is almost a preservation manifesto.
The site is a Transformers fan archive built around the Insecticons, with old fan comics, fan fiction, archived question-and-answer material, jokes, character material, and links to the owner’s later work elsewhere on the Web.
It also still sounds like a fan site.
The homepage describes itself as small, black and purple, bandwidth-eating, prone to one-liners, and not particularly useful. That tone matters. The archive is not trying to impersonate a corporate franchise portal or a neutral wiki. It is visibly the product of somebody who liked these characters enough to build a whole corner of the Web around them.
Fandom used to own its own rooms
Before Tumblr, Twitter, Discord, Reddit, and giant fan wikis absorbed most fan activity, fandom often lived on independent domains.
People made comics, wrote stories, scanned material, built joke pages, linked to friends, and kept everything together under a site identity that was theirs.
Insecticons.com preserves that model unusually well because it explicitly treats its older 2000s material as an archive rather than embarrassment to be deleted.
That makes the site useful beyond Transformers fandom.
It demonstrates what gets lost when fan culture moves entirely onto platforms: layout, tone, navigation, private jokes, satellite sites, old project names, and the ability for an owner to say, twenty years later, “this stays online.”
CacheRat’s 1,967 Ancient Web Domains research list contains many fan pages, but the best survivors do more than preserve media. They preserve the social shape of fandom before feeds standardized it.
Insecticons.com still feels like somebody’s room.
That is exactly why it is worth keeping.
